One person shot, another hit by vehicle escaping gunfire, Lafayette Police say

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — One person was shot and another person was hit by a vehicle leaving the scene early this morning, according to Lafayette Police.

Lafayette Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of E. Simcoe Street at 2:45 a.m. Thursday in reference to reckless vehicle reports and crowd control, when officers heard shots fired.

Investigators said gunfire was exchanged between two groups in the 1100 block of E. Simcoe Street, when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was fleeing the area while taking cover.

The victim of the shooting sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and is now listed in stable condition.

The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified.

Multiple vehicles were also struck by gunfire during this altercation but no other injuries have been reported.
