SAN DIEGO – Armed crime dropped to the lowest point in seven years in San Diego during 2024, according to data on weapon-related crimes obtained by CBS 8. Police data shows officers investigated 4,337 weapons-related crimes from January 1, 2024, through December 18, 2024, when the data was released. That is nearly 400 fewer weapons-related crimes reported last year and over 200 fewer armed crimes reported in 2018, the second-lowest year recorded. The total number of weapons-related crimes in 2024 was more than 1,000 fewer than the seven-year high set in 2021 during the pandemic.
