The Dish: New Year’s brunch at four Palm Beach favorites

Whether it calls for healthful or hangover-busting fare, New Year’s Day brunch — a Palm Beach favorite — features everything from black truffle-accented eggs à la Française at Café Boulud or a burger and fries at come-as-you-are Green’s Pharmacy Luncheonette.

And if you subscribe to the belief that New Year’s Day should include eating foods said to bring good luck or prosperity — such as black-eye peas and collards — you’ll find something in that vein, too.

New Year’s Day falls on a Wednesday — not a typical brunch day — but among restaurants open on Jan. 1, here’s a taste of some serving brunch.

Lest you doubt that it’s open on New Year’s Day, this Palm Beach classic founded in 1938 with a beloved lunch counter (plus tables) is open 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day after New Year’s Eve and the late-night carousing it can entail, it’s not uncommon to see local patrons during brunch hours, munching on various kinds of omelets (prices vary, but on average, around $16), a burger and fries ($15.45) or perhaps a BLT ($13.95).
