Denver considers adding $44K to homeless family shelter contract

The Denver City Council soon will consider adding $43,921 to a contract with Family Promise of Greater Denver, or PPGD, to provide shelter and meals to homeless families.

The shelter can take up to eight families at a time, according to a memo from city staff to the council. They sleep in private and semi-private rooms. Staff serves three meals per day.

The shelter, which has a waiting list, is open to families with children 18 and under or are pregnant in the third trimester. Families with adult children who depend upon them as their caregiver also will be served. “FPGD staff will employ a strength-based philosophy and strategies to help client families with practical housing, employment, savings goals, external referrals, resources, partnerships, practical skill building, and overall advocacy,” according to a memo from city staff to council. “FPGD will conduct formal evaluations of each family’s progress toward their self-identified goals around housing, employment, and improved financial stability after 30 days.”
