3 people hospitalized after car strikes pair riding moped in Brooklyn: ‘Somebody’s always getting hit’

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A crash in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning sent three people to the hospital, including two who were riding together on a moped, according to police.

Two people traveling on a moped were crossing Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York just before 7 a.m. when a white Nissan Sentra turned left onto Pitkin Avenue and struck the scooter, officials said.

Both moped riders and the driver of the Nissan were transported to a local hospital to treat injuries. Their conditions were not immediately clear.

Debris—including two helmets and a shoe—was scattered all throughout the intersection next to the mangled moped and car as police investigated.

Barbara, who lives nearby, told 1010 WINS that the intersection is dangerous and she avoids it whenever she can.

“That’s a bad intersection. Somebody’s always getting hit,” she said. “I’ll go all the way around, keep from making left or right turns.”

Kyrie drives a similar scooter and was shaken by the incident.

“It’s crazy because like the scooters, the cars, the cars won’t stop,” he told 1010 WINS. “I’m a scooter guy, it could have been me.”
