CONSERVANCY: Local group aims to keep wild land wild

The Environmental Conservancy of North Port and Surrounding Areas is always looking for funds to protect more nature.

The nonprofit uses donations to purchase parcels of land before developers can, and preserves their natural landscapes.

So far, in four years they have acquired 43 parcels in North Port and in Charlotte County, totaling approximately 14 acres of protected land.

The Conservancy started its efforts in 2020. Volunteers say donations are “essential” to combat the “deep pockets” of developers.

To get things kicked off in the new year, the group has planned a fundraising music festival.

‘Music in the Park’ Flower Power FestivalThe Conservancy is planning its “Music in the Park” Flower Power Festival to raise money for land acquisition in the Harbour Heights neighborhood for Saturday.

The nonprofit has preserved 13 parcels in Harbour Heights and needs community support to help the continuing mission there. The group held a music and information festival last year, which was a success.
