BABCOCK RANCH, Fla. (WFLA) — Four teenage girls are recovering after a “targeted” firework attack left them with serious injuries and burns last week, according to NBC affiliate WBBH .
A 16-year-old girl, Kaia, and her three friends were reportedly driving in a golf cart on Friday night around Babcock Ranch, located northeast of Fort Myers. That’s when a silver car sped up to them and a teenage boy allegedly threw a box into the vehicle.
Former Florida deputy identified as suspect in 1979 cold case, deputies say
“My daughter said she looked at the guy. He was smiling. That just keeps playing in her head over and over. His face while he was lighting the firework and throwing it at them.” Kaia’s mother, Ambree Barrett told WBBH.
When the girls noticed smoke, they immediately hopped out of the golf cart, before it crashed into nearby trees, WBBH said.
Two of the victims were hospitalized. WBBH said the crash caused the driver to suffer a broken foot and her epilepsy to return.
“She’s hurt. She’s been actually to the hospital about two times for seizures because of this. It’s insane.” the girl’s mother added.
