Study shows more people moving to S.C.

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) – A study shows more people are moving to — and less are leaving –South Carolina than any other state.

Reasons South Carolina is so inviting as a choice for a permanent home include a decent cost of living rate, good weather most of the year, and beautiful beachfront locations.

This is the second year in a row South Carolina has topped the list, compiled by moveBuddha, a website that compares local and long-distance movers and costs.

The top states people are moving to, in order:

South Carolina
North Carolina
Maine
Tennessee
Idaho
Arkansas
West Virginia
South Dakota
Alaska

The top states people are moving from, in order:

California
New Jersey
Rhode Island
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Illinois
North Dakota
Maryland
Nebraska
Louisiana

According to the study, people want to move to smaller cities that offer great value in the South and Mountain West. States like Florida and Texas, which boomed in popularity during and after the pandemic, are still seeing growth, but the numbers aren’t as large.
