Soul and Blues man Kenneth “Hollywood” Scott dies

(December 31, 2024) 2024 has led us to many musical passings, and we sadly have another one today. Noted Chicago guitarist, Kenneth “Hollywood” Scott, has died. His age and cause of death were not revealed. A dynamic performer and a key part of the Chicago soul and blues scene, Scott was revered by artists throughout the Midwest and beyond.

We found out about his passing from an Instagram post from guitarist John Carey and a Facebook post by Chi-Lites leader Marshall Thompson: Heaven has gained another angel. The Chi-Lites gave him his first musical tour on the road with us playing guitar in 1973. My buddy Kenneth (Hollywood) Scott has gained his wings and joined all the rest of his super musical family and friends. God bless his family. What a great loss.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, as the son of blues guitarist Kenneth “Buddy” Scott, Kenneth grew up immersed in the rich musical traditions, drawing inspiration from the legendary sounds of Motown, Stax, and the Chicago blues scene. A natural entertainer from a young age, he earned the nickname “Hollywood” for his charisma, stage presence, and undeniable swagger.
