Residents of a Texas neighborhood paid tribute to a former Walmart employee who passed away mere days before Christmas. Irene Bolton, 90, was known by many residents of Mesquite as the “Queen of Walmart” as she had worked at the superstore for 28 years.
Many residents gathered at Bolton’s old store on Thursday to pay tribute to the woman who had been a staple in the community for so many years. Several of the people in the vigil laughed and exchanged memories of their interactions with Bolton.
“Miss Irene was a beloved member of the Walmart family for almost 30 years,” a spokesperson for the Walmart located along US-80 said to NBC affiliate WFAA . “She was always there to offer a kind word and a smile to everyone she met, and we’ll greatly miss her. We truly appreciate the Mesquite community coming together to honor someone who meant so much to us all.”
