City of Springfield prepares for weekend winter weather

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Winter storms are expected to roll into the Ozarks over the weekend creating dangerous conditions in some places. The City of Springfield is preparing to clear the streets for the winter weather ahead.

“We will not make the final decision on what our plan exactly will be until about 24 hours before,” said Colten Harris, Superintendent of Streets for the City of Springfield. “But it certainly looks like we will at least have a skeleton crew, but if needed, and whenever we’re close enough to the storm to make that decision, will be able to do a full response.”

Harris says the city has 32 trucks and 64 drivers they can send out to salt the streets, making it safer to drive. The City’s salt supply is well stocked with around 10,000 tons of salt.
