Maria Villasenor and husband Andres Guzman rang in the new year with the birth of their second child, Eliana Guzman.
Eliana is Salem’s first baby of 2025 and arrived at 10:08 a.m. on New Year’s Day, according to Salem Health.
She was born almost a week before her Jan. 6 due date at the Family Birth Center with “a lot of hair,” Villasenor said. She weighed 9 pounds and 1 ounce and has been a “very calm” baby.
Villasenor said she was surprised to have a New Year’s baby.
“I actually wasn’t expecting to have a New Year’s baby at all,” she said. “I was just very surprised, to top it all off.”
Villasenor went into the hospital at about 4 p.m. on Dec. 31. She said it was a long process, but worth it. She’s looking forward to being discharged Saturday so they can all be home together and she can rest.
Villasenor said Eliana’s 7-year-old big brother Favian is thrilled.
“He’s very, very happy. He was excited to meet her,” she said. “He cried a little bit when he saw her yesterday, when he came in to meet her finally.”
