A 295-home multi-use development proposed in the Jonquil City, complete with an aquatics and gymnastics center, would require the demolition of a church and the annexation of a small piece of land from Cobb County.
The multi-use development, pitched by Sandy Springs-based WSE Development LLC, would sit on roughly 10.3-acres along Windy Hill and Atlanta roads, near Campbell High School.
Of that, roughly 6.5-acres of land is owned by the existing International Gospel Outreach Church, which would see its house of worship and parking lot demolished to make way for the development, according to zoning documents.
According to the developer, the “declining” church is selling its property to downsize.
“Following the pandemic, much of the membership moved to ‘attending’ services online or relocating to a different church altogether, leaving the ministry in a difficult position. As a result, the founding Pastor and church leadership have elected to place the property up for sale and find a smaller venue to continue their mission in the City of Smyrna,” zoning documents read.
