A suspected shoplifter led police on a 46.5-mile chase early Friday afternoon at speeds exceeding 100 mph from Findlay to Toledo before being boxed in by cruisers near the Warehouse District, Findlay police reported.
Angelica Delao, of Toledo, was charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding and fifth-degree theft and booked into the Hancock County jail following her arrest. Findlay police said they will also seek a second-degree charge of assault on a police officer against her.
At one point in or near Perrysburg in the pursuit, another driver’s car was struck, but no injuries resulted, the Findlay police statement said.
Ms. Delao was reported to police as having fled a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Findlay with stolen merchandise about 12:11 p.m. Friday, and her vehicle was spotted on Hancock County Road 99, the department’s statement said.
A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect vehicle fled and entered northbound I-75, and a pursuit began, police said. As the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined, the vehicle maintained speeds between 100 and 115 mph.
