AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating after a body was found after a fire in a wooded area of southeast Austin.
Austin Police responded to an agency assist hotshot call around 3:50 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Nelms Drive, near Interstate 35 and William Cannon Drive. Police said the Austin Fire Department extinguished a fire at a homeless camp and found a man dead.
“This very well could have been an accident or it could have been something else, but right now we don’t have that information,” Officer Austin Zarling said during an afternoon news conference.

Police said detectives are investigating this as a suspicious death but not a homicide. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and there is no suspect in the death.
