Virginia Living Museum seeks public input on name for porcupine

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Living Museum is asking for the public’s help in naming their newest addition, a porcupine.

The young North American porcupine represents a species that is now very rare in Virginia’s diverse landscapes, the museum said. She was transferred from the Alaska Zoo.

Name submissions will run Jan. 4 through 11, followed by public voting from Jan. 12 through 19.

The porcupine’s name will be announced on Jan. 20.

Everyone who submits a name during the submission period will be eligible to win a special close encounter with the porcupine.
