Winter storm watch issued with potential for freezing rain impact

A winter storm watch issued for Hopkinsville and surrounding communities will be in effect from late Saturday until Monday morning.

The National Weather Service at Paducah predicts the possibility of “heavy mixed precipitation” with snow and sleet accumulations of 4 inches or more and a quarter-inch or more of ice.

“Expect power outages and tree damage due to the ice,” the warning states.

Hazardous conditions could make road travel impossible. There is a 60% chance of freezing rain Saturday night, when the temperature will dip to around 27 degrees, according to the NWS forecast.

Sunday’s high will be in the low 40s, and the region will get freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet before noon. More rain and snow are likely overnight with a low temperature of 27 degrees.

Monday will remain extremely cold with a high around 30 degrees and a 40% chance of snow.
