Blaze Consumes Former Car Wash in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Jan. 5 (KNN) — A large fire broke out at an abandoned car wash on Knudsen Drive early Sunday morning, with reports of people and animals possibly trapped inside.

Emergency crews from the Kern County Fire Department and Bakersfield Fire Department responded to the scene in the 5700 block of Knudsen Drive, near the intersection of Knudsen and Olive Drive, around 1 a.m.

Initial reports indicated that multiple individuals may have been inside when the fire started. While it appears everyone made it out, no official confirmation has been provided regarding the fate of any animals that may have been present.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though it is believed to possibly involve transients, according to early reports. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause. Arson investigators were called to the scene.

Roads in the immediate area were closed during firefighting efforts. The fire has since been brought under control.
