Winter storm covering major roads with ice and snow

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — As Sunday’s winter storm rages on, ice and snowy weather have begun to cover many major roads and highways throughout central and southern Missouri, with more to come throughout the day Sunday.

According to MoDOT, all major roadways in the following Ozarks counties are covered in snow and/or ice:

  • Barton County
  • Benton County
  • Camden County
  • Dade County
  • Dallas County
  • Dent County
  • Hickory County
  • Jasper County
  • Laclede County
  • Lawrence County
  • Morgan County
  • Miller County
  • Phelps County
  • Polk County
  • Pulaski County
  • St. Clair County
  • Vernon County
  • Webster County

In Greene County, all highways are either fully or partially covered by winter weather, according to MoDOT.

Major highways covered in winter weather include I-44 from Strafford to St. Louis, U.S. Highway 54, U.S. Highway 63 from Licking to Rolla and U.S. Highway 65 from Fair Grove to Benton County.

MoDOT is warning drivers to avoid traveling during the winter storm as a winter weather warning is in effect across the entire state, with heavy snow, ice, sleet, and other winter weather expected to hit the Ozarks.
