Gov. Ivey announces days of mourning for Alabama students killed in New Orleans terrorist attack

ALABAMA ( WHNT ) — Governor Kay Ivey announced Monday that Alabama would join Louisiana in its days of mourning for a former Auburn student and current Alabama student killed in the New Orleans New Year’s Eve terrorist attack.

Gov. Ivey announced that the state of Alabama would be joining Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry in their state’s period of mourning for the victims of the January 1 terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Miss Alabama crowned Miss America 2025

Governor Ivey is calling on Alabamians to join the state of Louisiana on Monday, January 6, 2025, in their day of mourning for Badawi and on Wednesday in their day of mourning for Dauphin.

The governor has directed flags across the state to remain lowered at half-staff for these days of mourning.

Badawi was a freshman at the University of Alabama and was a Baton Rouge native. Dauphin was an auto engineer and a 2023 graduate of Auburn University.

In Gov. Ivey’s proclamation, she wrote:

We will always remember Kareem Badawi and Drew Dauphin in the state of Alabama, and I express my sincerest condolences to their families and offer my support and respect for the state of Louisiana.
