MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) — Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff Monday in honor of former state Senator, George Petak.
The former senator died on Christmas Eve at the age of 75.
Sen. Petak was elected to represent Wisconsin’s 21st district in 1990 and would serve Racine and the surrounding communities until 1996.
Sen. Petak was known for casting the deciding vote that allowed for state funding to be used on the construction of Miller Park in Milwaukee, now known as American Family Field.
After serving on the Wisconsin State Senate, Petak then went on to serve as an administrator for the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institution’s Division of Corporate and Consumer Services from 2013 to 2016.
