HOUSTON , Texas ( KIAH ) — As an arctic cold front grips Southeast Texas , Houston residents could see a rare wintry mix, including sleet or freezing rain, as soon as Wednesday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the combination of freezing temperatures and Gulf moisture could create conditions favorable for light wintry precipitation. While snow accumulation is unlikely, icy patches on bridges and overpasses may develop on Thursday night into Friday morning, leading to potentially hazardous travel conditions. Also, there’s a chance of possibly a mix of snow and rain in Southeast Texas on Wednesday, although it’s unlikely.
As a result, residents should exercise caution during overnight travel and early morning commutes. Freeze warnings are also in effect, so people should remember to protect plants, pets, and exposed pipes from the cold weather.
