The Canton City Council is expected to vote Jan. 16 to set qualifying dates and fees for the Nov. 4 general election.
One seat in Ward 1, one seat in Ward 2 and one seat in Ward 3 on the city council, occupied by Sandy McGrew, Bryan Roach and Dwayne Waterman respectively, are up for election with terms ending in December.
Proposed qualifying hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19 and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 20 at Canton City Hall. The proposed fee is 3% of a council member’s total annual salary, of $360, due at the time of qualifying. The fee is nonrefundable.
A qualifying packet will be made available online and in the city clerk’s office beginning in March.
Canton has an agreement with Cherokee County to conduct its municipal elections.
