Skiers Chant “Pay Your Employees” as Patrol Strike Continues

The Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association’s (PCPSPA) unfair labor practice strike is entering its tenth day, and the public outcry has reached a fever pitch.

Vacationers and Park City locals have shared countless videos of long lift lines that have allegedly formed due to the limited open terrain. One video in particular, however, is making waves amongst the skiing community.

The video allegedly shows skiers in a long line for the King Con lift at Park City Mountain Resort on Saturday, January 4, 2024. Dozens of skiers can be heard chanting, “Pay your employees.”

Dave Amirault shared the video the X (formerly Twitter). Press or tap play below to watch.

The PCPSPA is aiming to increase their base pay from $21/hr to $23/hr in the negotiation process.

Park City Mountain Resort COO Deidra Walsh spoke to frustrated skiers in a series of Instagram videos on December 30, 2024. Walsh claimed that below average snowfall was impacting operations, and prior language from PCMR claimed that operations were “normal” despite the ongoing PCPSPA strike.

PCMR has changed their tune as the strike moved towards its third week. A statement on PCMR’s website reads on Monday, January 6th, 2025, “We are opening the terrain that is safe to open based on the team members we have each day. Please expect some operational impacts from the ongoing patrol strike.”

The resort has 25/41 lifts and 103/350 trails scheduled to open today, January 6, 2025.

The PCPSPA posted on January 3rd that their negotiators resumed conversations with Vail Resorts on January 2nd, and that the, “bargaining session was more productive than the last 10 months,” but that a “fair” contact has yet to be agreed upon.

As their strike continues, the PCPSPA is asking for donations to their strike fund. As of January 6, the GoFundMe has raised over $250k to support patrollers financially.
