‘Right place at right time’: CDOT workers detail how snowplows aided in police chase

DENVER (KDVR) — A police pursuit on Interstate 70 near Floyd Hill ended with the help of snowplows.

A crew of about seven Colorado Department of Transportation workers were using radios to communicate with one another as the chase unfolded.

“I called the team and asked them who’s willing to help,” said Michael Zamora, a supervisor with CDOT. “I wasn’t going to tell anyone what they needed to do. They all were willing to help. They all bought in.”

The situation happened on Jan. 2 around 11:30 p.m. as officers were patrolling I-70. One officer noticed a black Hyundai Accent without a working tail light. License plate readers flagged the vehicle as stolen out of Northglenn connected with a robbery in Lakewood.

Officers tried to stop the driver several times including using two tire deflation sticks, but when that didn’t work, they set up a roadblock. The suspect also managed to get around that — striking a deputy’s vehicle in the process.
