UH’s Roure, Rosenthal earn Big West volleyball honors

The fourth-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team is off to a 2-0 start after defeating McKendree this past weekend. On Monday, two Rainbow Warriors were recognized with three Big West weekly awards.

Junior setter Tread Rosenthal, who recorded 94 assists and three aces over the two matches, was named Big West Setter of the Week.

Freshman outside hitter Adrien Roure also earned top honors, being named both Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week after an impressive debut that included 30 kills with a .404 hitting percentage.

“He’s been putting up those kinds of numbers in our practice gym,” UH head coach Charlie Wade said of Roure. “He hit .500 against a really good team at Grand Canyon, and he’s shown he can play at a high level consistently. He was the best outside hitter at the European Championships, and he’s proving that here.”

Roure said playing at the Stan Sheriff Center was unforgettable. “The atmosphere and energy—it’s something you can’t really imagine until you see it with your own eyes. It’s crazy.”
