A collision early Tuesday morning in Phoenix caused significant delays to the light rail system, Valley Metro said on X , formerly Twitter.
Around 5:30 a.m., a vehicle crashed into a light rail train as the train was approaching the station on Van Buren Street and Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix, Valley Metro spokesperson Juliana Vasquez-Keating said.
The collision blocked the westbound lane of the light rail, creating delays of 30-35 minutes, Valley Metro’s X post said. Service was impacted for around an hour as police conducted their investigation, Vasquez-Keating said.
Valley Metro said the westbound lanes were no longer experiencing “significant” delays, but eastbound lanes had residual delays, around 20-25 minutes.
Further details were not released.
