Crews in Portsmouth respond to fire on Winchester Drive

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Crews in Portsmouth responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning.

According to officials, crews were dispatched to the 4000 block of Winchester Drive just before 4 a.m. for the report of a residential structure fire. When crews arrived, they found the occupants outside and smoke inside the home.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire that was within the walls and had extended into the attic space. The fire was marked out at 4:15 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the extent of the fire, two adults and three children will be staying with local family members.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Portsmouth Fire Marshal’s Office.

A functioning smoke alarm was inside the residence, which notified the residents and helped them evacuate in a timely manor, according to fire officials.
