Columbus to consider rezoning land on Macon Road, residents show opposition

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — Columbus City Council will hear a proposal to rezone undeveloped land on Macon Road. However, constituents don’t share the same sentiment as developers.

In Columbus, there is 111 acres of undeveloped land on Macon Road. This land came before council nearly six months ago with a different developer who proposed a PUD plan.

Now, Wizer Home Builders LLC, a have a ten-year plan to build more than 300 single family and townhomes that will be up for sale.

This development plan can only happen if the land is rezoned.

According to City Council member Charmaine Crabb of District 5, constituents do not want the land to be rezoned.

“They just don’t want the extra traffic. And so, they’re fine with the way it’s currently zoned and they… they’re not fighting against development per say. They just don’t want to rezone it and create more populous in that area that would create issues with their streets.”
