Santa Ana man arrested in fatal stabbing and assault

SANTA ANA, California — A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing and an assault that occurred in a Santa Ana shopping center, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.On January 5, 2025, at approximately 3:04 p.m., police received a report of a stabbing in the McDonald’s parking lot at 3810 S. Bristol Street. Officers, along with the Orange County Fire Authority, arrived to find a 43-year-old man with a stab wound to his upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.During the investigation, officers discovered that a woman had also been assaulted by a man in the same shopping center. The woman reported being punched multiple times in an unprovoked attack. Officers detained the suspect near the crime scene.The suspect, identified as Justin Anthony Carlin, age 43, of Santa Ana, was found to be involved in both the assault and the stabbing, which were unrelated incidents. Carlin was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail for murder under Penal Code 187(a), along with additional charges related to the assault.Homicide detectives are seeking additional witnesses to provide information about the incidents.
