A Charlotte jury today convicted Kendall Charles Alexander Sr., 60, of Baltimore, for the armed robbery of a Bank of America branch, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of North Carolina.
On Oct. 15, 2021, Alexander and co-defendant Derrius Fleming robbed the Bank of America in Charlotte’s Southend neighborhood, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
Alexander entered the bank with a loaded semi-automatic rifle, while Fleming forced an unarmed security guard inside at gunpoint, the office confirmed.
Inside the bank, Alexander and Fleming threatened to kill employees and customers if they did not comply, ordering everyone to the ground, the department reported.
Alexander then directed the manager to open the vault and filled a bag with cash while Fleming stood guard, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Afterward, the pair met up with a third individual, attempted to burn their getaway car, and fled in a second vehicle, the office said.
After crashing the car, Alexander and Fleming fled on foot across I-77, the U.S. attorney’s office stated. Authorities recovered the stolen money from a bag Alexander dropped during the escape, the department reported.
