OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Are you planning on traveling on an airplane this summer? The deadline to get a Real ID is quickly approaching.
“We absolutely want citizens to be prepared for when they have their summer travels,” said Jay Doyle, the CEO of Service Oklahoma.

Starting on May 7, 2025 , a Real ID will be required for anyone flying on a domestic airplane or visiting a military base or federal building.
“This really kind of stems from September 11, and they started putting this in place back in 2007,” said Doyle. “Through a myriad of delays and exemptions and extensions to this deadline, the deadline is finally coming up on May 7.”
According to Doyle, right now only 40% of Oklahomans have a Real ID.
However, he doesn’t expect every Oklahoman to get one.
“So a noncompliant credential still allows you to drive, still allows you to vote, still allows you to do basically anything you need to do outside of getting on a plane or going to a federal facility,” said Doyle.
