UPDATE: According to Indiana State Police Seargent Matt Ames, at 1:55 p.m., January 7, Indianapolis Troopers patrolling near Interstate 70 on the west side of Marion County attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Lexus that was reported stolen.
The driver of the Lexus refused to stop and continued to travel in the westbound lane of I-70 at speeds greater than 100 mph, said Ames.
The pursuit traveled through several counties until a set of tire deflation devices were deployed near mile marker 12 in Vigo County. Seargent Ames said the pursued vehicle struck the deflation device, flattening one of the driver’s tires, but the vehicle continued to attempt to flea officers.
Seargent Ames said that the vehicle finally came to a stop near mile marker 10 on I-70. Troopers and deputies then conducted a felony traffic stop and took the driver into custody.
According to officials, the driver was identified as Benjamin Lewis, 44, of Jasonville, Indiana. Lewis is currently being held on bond at the Vigo County Jail.
