(This story was updated to add new information.) A natural gas leak on Marco Island remained under investigation Tuesday night. Emergency personnel evacuated two businesses and blocked part of Bald Eagle Drive and Chalmers Drive to Barfield Drive. By 8 p.m. TECO Energy officials had arrived, according to an Instagram post by Marco Police Department. Specialists wearing hard hats were digging in a couple of locations along Bald Eagle Drive and Windward Drive after digging in a vacant field near the sidewalk across the street earlier in the day. The smell of gas was strong.
