ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Several local teachers are rewarded for their hard work with funds to provide more opportunities for their students.
The Golden Apple Foundation and Collins Aerospace hosted a reception for 70 teachers who were awarded grants that totaled $60,000.
That was a $18,000 increase from last year’s grant awards.
The money will allow teachers to purchase items not typically funded by school budgets. One recipient said she is excited to be able to provide more opportunities for her students.
“My grant was for make-due invent kits,” said Haskell Kindergarten Teacher Jelena Holcomb. “It’s a cardboard cutting tool and then they have ways that the kids can build projects and go through the engineering design process.”
Since the Golden Apple Foundation started, it has funded more than 400 projects. That equals just over $340,000 in funding.
