Woman indicted on arson charges in connection to downtown Savannah fire

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) —A Chatham County Grand Jury has indicted a woman on charges in connection with a house fire in downtown Savannah.

Tamekia Mumford is charged with arson in the first degree and aggravated assault in connection to an Oct. 1 fire.

Firefighters said that around 20-25 people lived at the residence on Capital Street when the fire occurred.

One person was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation, but there were no other injuries reported.

Mumford was indicted on Dec. 30, 2024, and is expected back in court for arraignment on Feb 13.
