Although the National Weather Service is forecasting chances for wintry precipitation and freezing rain from Wednesday through Friday in the western Hill Country, the Austin area is more likely to receive an inch of rain or more, which is not a cause for concern, officials said.
A low opportunity for rain in Austin will trickle in Wednesday night, but the chance for precipitation will quickly rise to a 15%-90% probability throughout the day Thursday. Daytime temperatures will reach highs in the lower to mid-40s and drop to the lower to mid-30s overnight. Local rain chances will decrease by late morning Friday, before sunny skies and warmer temperatures return Saturday, according to weather forecasts.
While nothing is set in stone, weather service meteorologist Monte Oaks said meteorological models predict Austin could get an inch of rain or more. Some overpasses and bridges in the northwestern corner of the city could develop a light layer of ice in the early morning hours over the next few days, though any ice or freezing rain that falls onto the ground isn’t expected to stick, Oaks said.
