Miss Ohio USA helping save lives through nonprofit

CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — One local family knows first hand the difference that just one blood donation can make.

Through the leadership of this year’s Miss Ohio USA, Macy Hudson of Dayton, they’re working to make sure everyone in need of a transfusion can get one.

“It’s so incredible that we can change people’s lives with such a small thing,” Macy said.

Donating blood. Macy says it’s a small thing with a huge impact.

“It’s something that we have and access and we’re able to do something that’s, you know, not too bad for us at all,” Macy said. “It’s not a hard process at all.”

It’s a topic that’s personal for Macy and her family.

Her late sister, Moriah, had a rare blood condition and needed multiple blood transfusions.

After Moriah died, Macy quickly realized one of best ways to honor her life would be blood drives and raising awareness about the dire need for blood donations.

That’s what she does now through her nonprofit, 518 4Life.

“Reaching out to my community again with people who may not have ever wanted to donate blood or had a purpose to it, gives a face to the reason it gives it gives a story behind it,” Macy said.
