Rivers Casino faces multiple federal lawsuits after admitting to data breach

Rivers Casino in Fishtown is facing federal lawsuits after admitting a data breach appears to have compromised personal information — including bank account details.

It’s unclear how many people are affected and whether they’re workers, gamblers, or both.

The proposed class-action lawsuit accuses Rivers’ parent company, Rush Street Gaming, of failing to properly secure and safeguard personally identifiable information. It is a combination of three separate suits accusing the casino’s parent company of similar negligence regarding the protection of personal information.

A letter sent to potential victims late last month by Rivers is included in court documents. It says an ‘unauthorized’ person accessed files that included names, Social Security numbers, and bank account details used for direct deposit.

The lawsuit seeks punitive damages, accusing Rivers of negligence and delaying notification.

A spokesman for the casino has not revealed anything about the breach beyond what is in the letter.
