Two rescued after car is found in pond on Indy’s west side

INDIANAPOLIS — Two individuals were rescued after fire crews found their car in a retention pond on the west side of Indianapolis.

Wayne Township firefighters arrived at the area of Beachway Drive on the Boardwalk of Westlake Apartments at approximately 1 a.m. on Wednesday to find a sedan partially submerged in a body of water.

One individual removed themselves from the vehicle, the other person was on the roof of the car waiting to be saved, according to the Wayne Township Fire Department.

The Ice Rescue Team placed a ladder on the car and assisted the individual to shore.

First responders believe the reason for the crash was due to road conditions.
