Here we go again
As we start 2025, it seems important to remember 2017 while we ponder what to do next. For four years we resisted in many ways, with letters and calls to elected officials, protests and marches, efforts to interfere with family separation and or other atrocities and with hope. In 2021, we thought we had made it out of the mess.
Now, sadly, we have it again. I’m tired, and I imagine that’s a common feeling .
Consider what happened: the Muslim travel ban ; horrible treatment of people seeking political asylum; children separated from their families at the border ; neo-Nazis marching in Charlottesville; breakdown of a once-functioning Supreme Court; over 1 million dead from COVID ; loss of faith in governmental institutions, our fellow citizens and more.
What do we do now? A lot of what we did before and more of it. I’m worried about trans people, women, people of color, Ukrainians , the rest of Europe, Uyghurs, people without health benefits, people who have health insurance but not enough money for out-of-pocket costs, retirees, schoolchildren, teachers, nurses, pedestrians … well, everyone.
