HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County leaders on Tuesday backed requests by a community trying to improve its roads and drainage through the creation of a special tax district.
If the Forestbrook neighborhood’s efforts sound familiar, that’s because it is — mirroring a similar agreement on Legends Drive after property owners there spent eight years trying to create the district as a way to upgrade infrastructure.
Eagle Trace is looking to do the same.
Horry County ready to spend $2.5M on Legends Drive upgrades with creation of special tax district
“We’ve done not too bad for years, up until recently. It’s just really starting to fall apart,” said Ronald Adkins, an Eagle Trace homeowner.
The quaint area off Burcale Road has seen its roads and drainage systems deteriorate over the past 15 years, and it now faces a $600,000 price tag to fix several deep, multiple potholes while also addressing flood concerns.
Like many on his street, Adkins rents out his property.
“At least three or four of us at one time, we’re getting together once a month or something like that to pull a couple hundred bucks out of our pockets to get holes patched here and there,” he said.
