New Orleans high school closed for day due to frigid temperatures

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Students at Martin Luther King High School will stay home on Wednesday, Jan. 8 citing a lack of heat.

According to officials with the Lower Ninth Ward school, due to the frigid temperatures and no heat in the building, students and staff will not report to the school.

Another cold night, rain on Friday

“We anticipate that all students and staff will return on Thursday, January 9,” said MLK High School officials.

Officials add that the administrative team will decide how the missed day will be made up.

WGNO weather team reports that Wednesday temperatures are expected to reach a high of upper 40s.
