WEST PALM BEACH — A judge sentenced a 19-year-old man from Pinellas County to two years of probation Wednesday after the man pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts related to the defacing of a Delray Beach LGBTQ crosswalk street mural last February.
Dylan Brewer of Clearwater pleaded to a lesser charge of criminal mischief above $200 but below $1,000 in addition to one count of reckless driving causing injury to property or a person.
Circuit Judge Daliah Weiss placed Brewer on 12 months of probation for each count, with the probation terms to run consecutively.
Weiss also ordered that Brewer pay $5,698.71 to the city of Delray Beach, that he perform 75 hours of community service and that he complete eight hours of anger management classes.
Delray Beach police investigators alleged that Brewer used his vehicle to perform multiple “burnouts” on the evening of Feb. 4, 2024, at the rainbow-striped crosswalk at Northeast First Street and Northeast Second Avenue.
It was the second time in three years that a person was accused of defacing the same crosswalk. In June 2021, a 20-year-old Lantana-area man was arrested on charges similar to Brewer’s after Delray Beach police alleged that he burned 15-foot-long tire skid marks into the $17,000 streetscape days after it was unveiled. He received two years of probation.
