WEST END, N.C. (WNCN) — A father was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of his two-year-old son over a year ago, deputies said.
According to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency personnel responded on Dec. 2, 2023, to a call for an unresponsive child in the 100 block of Shady Wood Court in West End. The child, identified as two-year-old River Carter, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Deputies said they determined River was isolated in a room for more than 12 hours and exposed to elevated temperatures from a space heater prior to his death being reported.
The child’s father, 27-year-old Aaron Lynwood Carter of Fayetteville, was arrested in connection with the incident. He is charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse inflicting serious injury, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said Carter was sent to the Moore County Detention Center under $500,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Moore County Court on Thursday.
