APPLETON — Speakeasy Ultra Lounge surrendered its alcoholic beverage licenses Tuesday, one day before the city’s Safety and Licensing Committee was set to proceed with the revocation of the licenses.
The move clears the way for any new business taking over the property at 425 W. College Ave. to apply for an alcoholic beverage license without delay. Had the licenses been revoked, no new license could have been issued to the premises for at least six months.
“There’s no waiting period” now that the licenses have been surrendered, City Clerk Kami Lynch told The Post-Crescent. “A new applicant can just come in and apply, and it would go through the normal timeline.”
The Safety and Licensing Committee first considered the revocation of Speakeasy’s licenses on Dec. 11.
At the time, Theodore Suess, owner of the nightclub, asked the committee to delay the revocation proceedings to give him time to complete the sale of the business. He said he found a prospective buyer for the business and property, but the deal hadn’t been finalized.
