Sedgwick County sheriff talks about brother who died in the line of duty 29 years ago

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – It has been 29 years since Sedgwick County Deputy Kevin Easter was shot and killed in the line of duty. Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter talked to KSN about his brother’s legacy.

“He was 24 years old when it happened, so I still remember him as a very young man,” said Jeff.

On Jan. 8, 1996, Kevin tried to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen. The suspect vehicle crashed, and Kevin ran after the suspect. After a physical confrontation, the 14-year-old suspect pulled a gun and shot Kevin. He died at the hospital.
