MLK Day observances planned for Creedmoor, Oxford

A number of programs are planned across Granville County in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Granville County Commissioner Tony Wayne Cozart will be the keynote speaker at the Oxford-Granville Martin Luther King Celebration Committee’s program to honor the Life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

The program will be Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 320 Granville Street in Oxford.The theme of the event, which is open to the public, is “Make Brick Without Straw.”

Tickets are free but required for entry.

In addition to the breakfast, a program entitled “Continuing the Dream: How Has Dr. King’s Legacy Inspired Me Today?” will feature readings by the winners of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest. This year’s contest entries came from G.C. Hawley Middle School, Granville Early College, and J.F. Webb High School.

Butner Mayor Linda Jordon will serve as the keynote speaker and there will be musical performances by Tim Johnson and Benaiah Adesoji.
