Lubbock’s iconic King sisters to be honored at awards ceremony

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Friday, a group of iconic Lubbock sisters will receive an award for their service to the community.

Latrice, Rene, Vicki, Darlene and the late Stacy King will be honored with a plaque for the years the group has dedicated time singing at funerals throughout the community, free of charge.

Looking ahead: What’s to come in Lubbock in 2025?

Deshun Avery of American Red Cross told EverythingLubbock.com, “It really hits home for me because they were there for my mother and father when they passed.”

The sisters will be honored with a plaque for a community service award at Kent Hance Chapel, 2511 17th Street, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 10.

“It’s a way for the community to say thank you,” said Avery.

And because they sing so beautifully, the four sisters will be performing. The event is open to the public.
