ORLANDO, Florida — A Florida man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for filing false tax returns that underreported his business’s revenue for two consecutive years. Jeremy Charles DeWitte, who owned Metro State Special Services, a funeral-procession escort business in Central Florida, filed individual income tax returns for 2017 and 2018 that materially understated his business revenue, according to court documents.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Julie S. Sneed ordered DeWitte to serve one year of supervised release and pay approximately $70,000 in restitution to the United States. The announcement was made by Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg for the Middle District of Florida. The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation, and Assistant Chief David Zisserson and Trial Attorney Curtis Weidler of the Tax Division prosecuted the case with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
